Your Guide to Spirit Week

Spirit Week 2015 will kick off the first week of school in January.
Here’s what students need to know to get ready for the high and middle school’s most boisterous week of the year.

DRESS-UP DAYS & ACTIVITIES
[one_half]MONDAY: Twin/Quad/Triplet Day* & Tug of WarStudents must come in a group of 2 to 4 with matching outfits. Costumes do not have to 100% matching (ie. same branded jeans), but it must be apparent that the twins/triplets/quadruplets are matching.[/one_half]

Students must come in an outfit that resembles an app. Costumes like a Facebook wall, a Clash of Clans troop character, and a Jetpack Joyride character are examples of acceptable costumes.[/one_half]

Students must dress up to match an era in American history before the year 2000. Costumes that resemble the 1920’s flapper era, the rock-and-roll era, and hippie era are all viable choices for this day.[/one_half]

THURSDAY: Pepper Squad Dress-Up* & Pepper Squad
FRIDAY: Black, Gold & White, & Platform Jam + Class Cheer
On Friday, Students may wear HBA attire (uniforms do not count). Approved attire include: HBA Spirit shirt, CEW shirts, HBA sports apparel. Other black, gold, and white attire may also be worn in the constraints of handbook rules.

RULES FOR DRESS-UP DAYS
Classes earn Spirit Points based on percentage when students dress up in the manner supportive of that day. If a student is wearing a uniform top, that student can only wear a uniform bottom and uniform jacket. Uniform tops and bottoms never count for Spirit Points (with the exception for Friday (uniform bottoms are allowed)). Any type of HBA uniform (daily uniform (top and bottom) and P.E uniforms (top and bottom)) will not count towards a grade’s Spirit Points.
T-shirt Day & Full Dress-Up Days
Friday is designated as a T-Shirt Day. Such a day is set aside to encourage class and school unity. On this day, students can wear blue jeans or a uniform bottom with the assigned top. Only the top counts for Spirit Points on these days. Students should wear covered shoes. The remaining days are considered Full-Dress Days (denoted with an *). Full-Dress Days are intended to encourage creativity and effort.
The following things are not allowed:

Shorts worn on these days must be knee-length, preferably HBA-like shorts, walking shorts, or Bermuda shorts. Slippers, knee-length basketball shorts, and knee-length board shorts are only allowed when they are designated in advance as appropriate for a given day.
Don’t forget our other pre-existing rules, too:
Covered shoes must be worn (in addition to saying “no slippers”)
No earrings for boys or any other piercings for boys and girls
No exposed tattoos
No extreme hairstyles such as mohawks, extreme fohawks, shaved heads, or shaved heads with patterns
Natural hair color or a shade off until the assembly
No exposed midriff or cleavage.
Accessories
Accessories are not necessary to be counted during Spirit Week. However, accessories alone are not enough to receive credit for Spirit Points on Full-Dress Days. Students must at least wear a top that is appropriate for the day to receive credit. Students may wear appropriate accessories in the classroom at teacher’s discretion.
Other Important Things to Note
Pepper Squad Dress-Up Day Allowances will be decided between class councils and the Student Council prior to Pepper Squad Dress-Up Day.
Student dress deemed inappropriate will count against their grade level’s daily percentage for Spirit Points.
