Monday, August 11. The day that could make or break your school year.

With one flash, your best or worst moment could be captured in 1,260 yearbooks for all of eternity. Luckily, we are here to help you take the picture you’ll want to send to your grandma. Although we can’t assure that you’ll look like Ryan Gosling or Scarlett Johansson, here are some picture day tips to look your best.

 

THE PERFECT PICTURE

DOs

  • The night before, practice smiling a few times in the mirror. Smile with your eyes!
  • Say no to excess sodium and drink lots of water the night before.
  • Shave before coming to school to avoid that awkward stubble patch.
  • Stay in dress code—that includes hair and jewelry. If you aren’t in dress code on picture day, you’ll have to return on the make-up day in dress code.
  • Wear a nice uniform shirt. No holes or stains. Ratty is not good.
  • Don’t feel obligated to wear makeup. But if you do, keep it natural. You want to look like YOU.
  • Brush and floss your teeth before you take your picture.
  • Keep hair under control. Bring a comb or brush for last minute touch ups.

 

THE WHAT-NOT-TO-DO PICTURES

DON’Ts

  • Stay up late before picture day. More beauty sleep = better picture.
  • Try out a brand new makeup look. You don’t want any unfortunate mishaps.
  • Wear any moisturizers, sunscreens, or makeup with SPF, shine, or shimmers. SPF can cause you to look washed out. Any shimmer will make your face look oily.
  • Wear reflective glasses
  • Guys: Keep those long luscious locks.
  • Everyone: Keep a hair style (like the afro above by one of the authors of this post) that you’ve been meaning to change.

Make sure that you’re looking at the camera and smiling. Also, let’s be honest, the mugshot look is so 2013.
