I see you've clicked on my name, so Hi! I am a senior and a part of the class of 2018, the best class ever. I am the Editor in Chief of the Eagle Eye, and this is my third year on the news team. I am a part of Science Olympiad, Model UN, HBA’s It’s Academic team, and a few more clubs. Outside of school, I am also a Boy Scout and I volunteer quite a bit through my church and other organizations. I took News Production because: 1. I’ve always had an interest in print, video, and photography media; 2. I've always felt that journalism is a much needed part of our society; and 3. I liked the way “Reporter Joel Lau” sounded. I plan to pursue a degree in Journalism and possibly a career in it also.

On April 11, the HBA’s high and middle schools launched a three week pilot of a new class schedule designed to aid students in managing their ever-increasing workload by regulating the flow of homework. The Double Extended schedule, colloquially known to students as the double-double schedule, gives each class two extended periods per week while …

After six years of trying and two straight heart-breakingly close second place finishes, the Class of 2018 has finally won Spirit Week during their final year, taking the much coveted Mana Cup. The seniors, who were only a few points from first last year, rallied after a disappointing Platform Jam performance, which had them in second …

The atmosphere inside the gym was electric as classes readied for the final showdown of an already intense Spirit Week 2018. Yet while the inter-grade competitiveness proved no different than years past, Friday's assembly placed special emphasis on school unity. So this year instead of Platform Jam, which was moved to Wednesday's assembly, each class's …

In an astounding turn of events, the end of the third day of Spirit Week 2018 found the sophomore, senior, and junior classes in a tight race for the coveted Mana Cup due to an unexpected upset during Wednesday's main event: the Platform Jam. For this competition, classes were given one minute to stuff as …

HBA's 2018 Spirit Week began this week Monday, January 8, to much anticipation. Students of both the middle and high school arrived on campus at the beginning of the week dressed as their favorite internet memes (humorous combinations images and text that serve as the inside jokes of the internet and are spread via social …

On April 1, the HBA Mock Trial Gold team competed in the Hawaii Mock Trial State Finals and defeated teams from Moanalua and Island Pacific Academy to become the state champion for the first time in school history. Following a superb season, the Gold team finished the state finals with a score of six wins, …

In an unprecedented turn of events, the HBA Administration recently announced a set of changes for the 2017-2018 school year. These changes include a new uniform design and the elimination of the competition in Spirit Week activities. While the daily costume themes, assemblies, and activities will remain, these events will no longer contribute to an …

On December 9, 130 HBA students, along with boats made of cardboard, recycled materials, duct tape, and even 3D printed plastic, departed the campus for the Wet and Wild water park in Kapolei. It was HBA's ninth annual Boat Regatta, and high school students from Physics, AP Physics, and AP Environmental classes had spent the …
