I see you've clicked on my name, so Hi! I am a senior and a part of the class of 2018, the best class ever. I am the Editor in Chief of the Eagle Eye, and this is my third year on the news team. I am a part of Science Olympiad, Model UN, HBA’s It’s Academic team, and a few more clubs. Outside of school, I am also a Boy Scout and I volunteer quite a bit through my church and other organizations. I took News Production because: 1. I’ve always had an interest in print, video, and photography media; 2. I've always felt that journalism is a much needed part of our society; and 3. I liked the way “Reporter Joel Lau” sounded. I plan to pursue a degree in Journalism and possibly a career in it also.

For many students, the highlight of Spirit Week is day four: Pepper Squad day. At HBA, Pepper Squad is a skit performed by each grade during Spirit Week meant to promote each grade's theme as well as to boost school spirit, hence the "pepper". Preparations begin in the second quarter, when the Student Council announces the …

On January 9, students of Hawaii Baptist Academy gathered together to celebrate the first day of Spirit Week, an annual tradition organized by the student council in which middle and high school grades compete together to determine which class has the most school spirit. On each day of the week, students compete to win points for their grade …

A masterpiece of a musical, Disney’s animated epic Moana is the must-see movie of the year, particularly with Hawaii’s special connection to the film. Upon first glance, Moana is yet another installment in the long legacy of sweet (and highly merchandisable) animated Disney princess movies that includes the likes of Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and the …

On Thursday, September 22, the freshman class packed into three school buses for a three day camp organized and led by the Christian Ministries department, with help from volunteer student counselors. Held in Waianae at the Pu’u Kahea Baptist Convention Center, the ninth grade camp was a time for stress relief, class bonding, and spiritual …

This fall, the student council organized an Olympics-themed intramural that spanned two weeks. Students formed teams of seven and competed against each other in handball and dodgeball games. To determine the winner, the the overall top three teams advanced to the relay race phase, where Team Yessai defeated its competitors to take the win in the end. …

It was the last day of school, and as HBA students turned in their final exams, the last bell of the school year sounded. As they leapt out of their seats to begin their summer, many had plans for a full and eventful vacation. However, with the advent of Netflix, social media, and other ubiquitous smartphone apps …

The first time I heard of Eat the Street, I thought it was a hippie festival for tourists, so I never really paid attention to it. But then one day, I was confronted with a predicament. Being an aspiring journalist, you have to write, and at that instance, I didn't have anything to write about. …
