Modern Medusa depicts the snake-headed figure from Greek mythology sitting alone in a deserted metropolis subway, a representation for social isolation. In traditional myths, Medusa is portrayed as an antagonist, whose gaze alone was powerful enough to turn people to stone. In this reimagining, however, she is presented as a victim rather than a villain. Unjustly cursed by the gods, she is forced to live in isolation—feared by society and forever misunderstood as a monster. This illustration is a reminder that people are not always who they seem from the outside.
