Kylie Yamauchi

Hi my name is Kylie Yamauchi and I am a senior. I took Intro to Newspaper in my freshman year and I’ve been a part of it ever since. When I’m not at school, you can find me at the Ala Wai either paddling or working out. (The Ala Wai isn’t as gross as it seems, by the way.) I’m a dedicated fan of the show Teen Wolf and the movie Whiplash, mostly because Miles Teller stars in it. I don’t have any musical talents but I can rap the whole Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song and some parts of Alphabet Aerobics—I’m in the process of learning the entire song. Follow me on Instagram (@kylie_yama) and I promise to follow back, most of the time. Fair warning, my feed is 90% paddling photos.

On an early Thursday morning, the senior class of 2016 met at Honolulu International Airport to embark on three activity filled days on the island of Maui for their senior trip. Upon arrival, seniors along with a handful of advisors got on a bus to Lahaina for a quick lunch before heading to the beach. …

For the second year in a row, the HBA Eagle Eye staff took home the Best-in-State title at the 2016 Hawaii High School Journalism Awards competition. The Eagle Eye also received 19 awards across a range of categories. On Wednesday, April 20, student journalists from 18 public and private high schools gathered at the Pagoda Hotel to find out …

The third quarter closed with Christian Emphasis Week 2016. The New Hope OG band returned to lead the middle and high school in chapels throughout the week, and Pastor Matt Sanders (Waialae Baptist Church) spoke on the theme "Overwhelmed" during the chapels. Students also attended a variety of seminars that week and enjoyed lunch performances by guest musicians.

When looking back on this season’s state championship game in Hilo in February, the HBA girls varsity basketball team will never forget the blaring, unmistakable sound of the buzzer that signaled the end of the game and crowned them Division II State Champions for the first time in the school’s history. Last year, the same …

Every year, as promposals and prom ticket sales come to a close, the lengthy and sometimes stressful process of preparing for the night of prom begins. For the juniors and seniors who will be attending their first HBA prom this March 14, many questions come into play concerning what they are going to wear, makeup …

There are two types of people in this world: those that believe in making new year’s resolutions and those that don’t. While I am in the latter category, I strongly believe in change and setting goals; I just don’t believe in making them only during the New Year season. The resolutions that come with each …

For the second time in their high school career, the class of 2016 won Spirit Week and held high the Mana Cup as a testament to their indomitable school spirit. Their victory was earned one costume at a time, one day at a time, with the sophomore class never far behind trying to take their spot in …

With the start of this past fall break, a group of 50 HBA students and teachers embarked on an 11-day trip to England. The group explored countrysides that inspired many literary writers such as the Brontë sisters, William Wordsworth, and William Shakespeare. The group also went sightseeing around the city of London, and got a …

A world traveler, a secretly talkative alumni, a hardcore outdoorsman, and a seasoned athlete walk into school on the first day of the school year... While this may seem like the beginning of a bad joke, it’s actually a description of the four new teachers on the high school campus. HBA welcomes Michelle Hendrick (Social …

Last Thursday, the senior class of 2015 spent their last day at HBA finishing exams, eating lunch at the administrative offices, and saying goodbye to the school at the senior send off. Seniors dressed in formal wear to attend a luncheon provided by the school at the administrative office's historic property on Wylie Street. Near …
