On Tuesday October 14, the HBA girls varsity volleyball team played their last home game in the regular season.

The match proved to be an exciting one, with the Eagles playing against Punahou II, and both teams coming into the game undefeated. The Eagles did not make it past the second set, losing 17-25 and 23-25 to Punahou II. The loss did did not dampen the night, however, as it was also Senior Night for the seven senior players on the team; many friends and family came to celebrate their athletic accomplishments throughout their volleyball career at HBA.

Senior Night is a special night in varsity school sports where senior athletes are honored. It is often a last hurrah, as it could be the seniors’ last game if their team doesn’t make it into the playoff stage. At HBA, Senior Night features special programming after the game to honor the senior players.

At HBA’s girls varsity volleyball Senior Night, underclassman players danced to the High School Musical song, “We’re All in This Together” for the seniors. Then each senior player had the opportunity to make a short speech to thank and appreciate her friends and family. Following their speeches, the players took their last volleyball swings, assisted by their family members. At the end of the program, friends and family gathered on the court to congratulate the seniors and present them with leis.

This year’s senior varsity volleyball players are: Kaily (Maka) Lum, Emily Wada, Sara Utsugi, Rylie Wada, Kim Yamamoto, Courtney Togo, and Megan Horita.
